Homework Metacognition

METACOGNITION "THINKING ABOUT THINKING"

 How foster metacognition?

- Activating the previous knowledge in the students.- With a self-evaluation.
-Develop in students reflect on what, how, when and where to use metacognitive strategies.
-Questions about the knowledge (what I know about it?)
-Questions about the process (what skills I have developed?)

4 stages to develop critical thinking :

1. Realist: They don´t have critical thinking because they are exact copies of reality. (Infant- Age 4)
2. Absolutist: They can make an assertion, but they can be correct or incorrect. Their critical thinking is trying to determinate who is right. (Age 4-Adolescence)
3. Multiplist: Assertions are opinions that are all equally valid, Critical thinking is not important. (Adolescence)
4. Evaluativist: Critical thinking is important to determinate which assertions are more correct based on the evidence. May need instructions from teachers /parents to fully develop. (Adolescence-Adulthood)

Automaticity and Cognitive load.

* In your own words, what is "Automaticity?

Is the ability to do things without occupying the mind with the low-level details required, allowing it to become an automatic response pattern or habit. It is usually the result of learning, repetition, and practice.
The easiest way to understand automatically is to think of everyday activities that are often performed at the same time. For example, a teenager who is able to listen to music while also completing a homework.

 * How do we develop automaticity?

The automaticity is the result of learning and we can develop by repetition and practice to make work our brain. The development of automaticity of skills generally reduces the load of the working memory by 90%.

* Create an example of how a teacher can change the amount of "extraneous cognitive load" on an assessment.

The Teacher can create a didactic activity in where the students practice their previous knowledge and begins with new knowledge in a progressive way. The students can learn in a didactic form without pressure in where the teacher evaluates other things instead of cognitive knowledge.

* When have you felt that you had a "full" cognitive load?

When I have to read too much and memorize terms, when I have two different meanings of phrasal verbs to my English class.
